The Moon and her Moonbeams lived in a particularly beautiful
part of Heavenly Father’s home. It always seemed to be bathed in
a gentle silvery glow which gave a feeling of peace and joy to all
who entered, and tonight, as always, they were preparing to step out
into the darkness and cast their pale gentle light over the world.
Combing their long silvery hair they made a beautiful picture as
they clustered around their Princess. Her Maids-in-waiting were
shaking out the folds in her dress so that it could sweep across the
skies as the Princess made her way from one side of the world to
the other. Her maids loved this task. They were very proud of
their lovely Princess, and made sure she looked her best every
evening.
Princess Maylin was also proud of all her Moonbeams, and it gave
her great pleasure to see them flitting across the skies scattering
their silvery glow and giving the earth such beauty.
Little Moojy Moonbeam was the smallest of them all, and she tried
so hard to shine as brightly as the older Moonbeams.
‘Don’t try so hard’ Moora, the Chief Moonbeam, would say. ‘As
you grow older, so you will get brighter.'
‘You are not a Sunbeam you know’ said Meena. ‘We have a
softer light, and you are doing very well.’
So Moojy worked hard at her training. ‘Perhaps one day I shall
even be chosen to be a Maid-in-waiting’ she thought, and she
shivered with excitement, for this was her Dream!
Then one day, many moons later, Moora came to her and said ‘Moojy,
you have passed your final “Silver Glow” exam, and you are to go
to Cloud 8 to report for duty.’
Moojy was delighted, she had always hoped she would be chosen
for Cloud 8.
‘Oh! thank-you’ she said. ‘Thank-you, Moora, you have chosen
my favourite work.’
‘I know’ Moora laughed. ‘I’ve been watching you. Now go and
report.’
Moojy disappeared in a flash, and was soon knocking on the door
of “Happy Dreams” on Cloud 8.
‘Come in’ called a voice.
Moojy entered, trying hard to hide her excitement.
‘I’m Molly’ said the Moonbeam on the Reception Desk. ‘I know
who you are. I have all your training records here. Congratulations
on gaining an ‘Honours’ Pass in the final “Silver Glow” test.
Moojy’s face shone with pleasure at such praise making her more
beautiful than ever.
Molly then gathered up a few papers and handed them to Moojy. 'Take these'
she said. 'And go down the corridor and into the fourth door on the
right, and give these to the Moonbeam in the office. I know you
are going to love your work and be very happy’ and she smiled
kindly at Moojy.
In great excitement Moojy walked down the corridor then knocked
on the fourth door which had a big notice on it saying:-
“Happy Dreams - Childrens’ Section”.
Moojy was just about to enter when the door was opened by
another Moonbeam coming out.
‘Hello!’ she said. ‘You are new here, aren’t you? I’m Mattie,
I’ve been here for six moons and I love it. You will too. I’ll see
you a lot, I expect. Bye for now’ and off she danced.
Moojy was thrilled. ‘What lovely Moonbeams to work with’ she
thought, and smiled and glowed as she handed in her papers.
‘This way’ the office Moonbeam said as she showed Moojy into
a wonderful room with silver curtains; pale grey carpet; and glorious
pictures on the wall showing Moonlight shimmering on the water;
Moonlight filtering through woodland trees; Moonlight dancing on the
thatched roofs of village cottages; and Moonlight peeping through
curtains and falling softly on to the faces of children curled up fast
asleep in their beds. It was breathtakingly beautiful.
Malia, Senior Moonbeam for Happy Childrens’ Dreams, then
explained Moojy’s duties.
Moojy had already had one moon’s training in this section so it
wasn’t completely new to her, but now she was given her own maps
and the key to the silver boxes. She could choose her own dreams
now, and she felt very important as she walked out of the room
looking at her very own Silver Key.
Mattie was in the Silver Box room when Moojy walked in.
‘Hello!’ they said again. ‘Where are you going to work?’ Mattie
then asked.
‘Here’ answered Moojy pointing to a small country town on the
map. Mattie clapped her hands in delight. ‘I’m working in the
villages nearby’ she said. ‘We can go together, and come home
together.’
Moojy was very happy. ‘That will be lovely’ she cried, almost
dancing with pleasure.
‘Come on, I’ll show you the Silver Boxes over here. They are my
favourites’ Mattie said as she caught hold of Moojy’s hand and
pulled her over.
The two Moonbeams spent a long time together in the Silver Box
Room choosing the loveliest and happiest dreams, and they barely
had time to eat their supper before Moora called them all for
inspection.
‘How beautiful they all look in their silver and blue gowns’ thought
Moora as she went down the lines.
‘Have you got your map, Moojy?’ she asked as she came to where
Moojy and Mattie were standing.
‘I don’t need it, thank-you Moora’ Moojy answered. ‘I’m going
with Mattie, she is working right beside me.’
‘That’s all right then’ said Moora. ‘I can see you two are going to
be good friends.’
Moojy and Mattie looked at each other and smiled and nodded
their heads in agreement.
The Moonbeams bobbed their curtsies, said ‘Good-night’ and
shimmered away across the skies bringing a soft glow of beauty
wherever they went.
As the moons went by, season after season, Moojy and Mattie
became well known. Somehow they seemed to know exactly what
the children liked, and they always added a little ‘extra’ moon-glow
of their own to their carefully chosen dreams.
As Moora watched them, and sometimes followed them, she always
knew the homes they had visited as the children would chuckle in
their sleep, and have happy smiles on their faces.
Moora told the Princess how pleased she was with them.
‘Perhaps we should begin training them to be Maids-in-waiting’
Princess Maylin suggested, well pleased with Moora’s report. ‘I
shall have a word with Mr. Weather Man.’
On her way back to the Moonbeams Moora felt so delighted for
Moojy and Mattie. To be Maid-in-waiting was the highest honour
any Moonbeam could have, but she kept the secret to herself as
the suggestion had first to go to Mr. Weather Man, and then to
Heavenly Father before anything could be decided.
A few moons passed and then Moora was told the good news that
Moojy and Mattie could indeed be trained as Maids-in-waiting with
one evening every week on ‘Childrens’ Happy Dreams’ duty as
they had brought so much joy to the children.
When Moora told Moojy and Mattie, they laughed and glowed and
danced and skipped across the sky. The people on earth looking up
at the sky wondered what was happening as they saw two
dancing, shimmering lights speeding across the sky, and heard
little tinkling bells of laughter. Of course they had no idea of the
great honour which had just been given to the two Moonbeams.
So Moojy and Mattie trained for their new work, and enjoyed every
moment. It was Moojy’s dream come true! They thought nothing
could be more wonderful.
Ah! But it could! And they were soon to find out.
Heavenly Father spoke to Mr. Weather Man, Mr. Weather Man
spoke to Princess Maylin, and Princess Maylin spoke to Moora, the
Chief Moonbeam, and what she said took Moora’s breath away -
so glorious was the task they had been chosen to do.
Moora walked quietly back to her Rest Room and sat for a while.
‘I must prepare my Moonbeams’ she whispered, then giving a little
shake to her shimmering gown, she glided out of the room.
‘Moonbeams’ she called. ‘I have some wonderful news for you.’
The Moonbeams sat quietly at her feet looking at one another in
great excitement as they could see how happy Moora was.
‘One evening soon’ she told them. ‘We are to perform the greatest
and most glorious task we have ever done.’
Again the Moonbeams looked at one another. ‘Whatever could it be?’
they wondered.
Moora continued. ‘Heavenly Father’s Son, Jesus, is to be
Transfigured, and we are to bathe Him in the most brilliant of
gentle light such as has never been seen before. I know we can do
it’ and she looked confidently at them all as their joy made them
sparkle and shimmer and glow.
Then Moora turned to Moojy and Mattie. ‘You, Moojy, will
lead the left cascade of Moonbeams, and you, Mattie, will lead
the right cascade with our Princess flowing into the centre at
the top of the cascade making a pinnacle of silver light. It will be
more breathtaking and beautiful, more wondrous than anything
has ever been before.
The Moonbeams hearts were pounding with joy. To be chosen for
such a wonderful task made them all speechless.
‘We shall begin training at once’ Moora continued. ‘The cascade
must flow perfectly, and even the Lord’s clothes must shine as
no-one on earth could possibly whiten them.’
And this is exactly what happened. Hour after hour they trained
until the cascade was perfect, and the pinnacle of light brilliant.
Then one day, when Moora judged them to be ready, Heavenly Father came to
inspect them.
‘Yes, you are now ready’ He said as He watched the cascades
forming, and Princess Maylin flowing into the pinnacle of gentle
light, creating a brilliance never seen before. And He smiled as He
saw their radiance and happiness.
‘Tomorrow is THE DAY’ Heavenly Father told them just before
He left. ‘I shall be watching you’ and again He gave His gentle and
loving smile.
‘Calm down, little Moonbeams’ said Princess Maylin gently. ‘Go to
your duties tonight then rest until you are called tomorrow.’
REST? That was the last thing they could do as, duties over, the sunbeams
chased them back home. This was a great game, causing much laughter, and
Heavenly Father often chuckled as He watched them. But REST as the great Day
arrived was impossible!
‘Have I enough sparkle?’
‘Does my robe flow?’
‘Is my hair shining?’ and so it went on until Mr. Weather Man popped his head
round the door of their Rest Room ‘I can see you are not going to settle down’
he said with an understanding smile. ‘So come to my windows and look down on
the mountain.’
The Moonbeams were there in an instant, and watched as Jesus, Peter, James and
John climbed to the top of the mountain.
Then it was TIME, and the Door of Heaven opened wide as
Elijah and Moses stepped through. The Moonbeams then hurried to the Door
awaiting the order to follow. Mr. Weather Man nodded and Moojy and Mattie
swiftly led the shimmering cascades of Moonbeams with Princess Maylin finally
flowing into the pinnacle. Down, down they went, and the Glory of Heaven
went with them and shone on Jesus Transfiguring Him into a shining Glory never
seen before.
And Moojy and the Moonbeams glowed and shimmered as never before as Jesus,
Elijah and Moses talked.
Then Zada, the Cloud, arrived with Heavenly Father and covered
them, and Heavenly Father spoke to the three disciples:-
“This is my Beloved Son. Listen to Him.”
After this Heavenly Father turned to Princess Maylin and the
Moonbeams and said ‘We shall return to Heaven now, your work is done.
My Son was wonderfully Transfigured. I thank you all.’ And His
smile was full of love as He looked at each one.
So Heavenly Father was well pleased with His Beloved Son; Princess Maylin and
her Moonbeams; and especially with His Shiniest Moonbeam of all - Moojy!
