ANGEL THOUGHTS
How many times have Angels looked
Upon the Lord in awe
What did they think as Jesus left
And stepped through Heaven’s door?
Way down to the earth He came
As He became a Babe
And did they laugh with happiness
As the Wise Men presents gave
Yes, all was joy in Heaven’s realm
As Mary looked with love
Upon the Saviour of the World
And gave her Son a hug
What did the Angels think when He
Was lost when He was twelve
And Mary, fraught with worry
In nook and cranny delved?
‘Where have you been?’ ‘We’ve searched for you
In every place we know.
But Jesus gently smiled and said
On God’s business I must go’
Did Angels smile, and nod their heads
As miracles were wrought
And Parables, with loving words
Were regularly taught?
What did they think, did faces fall
As men rejected Him,
The Saviour of the world - their Lord
Who came to save from sin?
Betrayal; the Garden; The cruel arrest;
The scourging; Crown of Thorns,
Did Angels weep, was Heaven sad
As Angels looked forlorn?
The Cross was heavy, hard to drag
To Calvary’s hill of death
Did Angels turn away, distraught
As He took His final breath?
Horror, shock, unhappiness
But wait! That’s not the end
Two Angels now are sent from Heaven
And swiftly to earth wend
A Risen Lord, an Empty Tomb,
Two men come hurrying in
“He is not here. He has conquered death”
Now Heaven’s Angels sing
And all is well, for you, for me
If we accept His Gift
Of sins forgiven, eternal life
From Heaven no more rift.
