EYESIGHT

I read once that our eyes were made for distances,
When there are no obstructions in the way
And we can just gaze
It gives us a sense of well-being, relaxation and happiness

We need to use our eyes to their fullest extent
Not only for the things immediately around us
But to open them, and really Look
Be aware, and see the greatness of God's creation

There is something in us which responds to the vastness of the sea
The restful greenery of fields stretching out before us
The breathtaking colours of a sunset
And the grandeur of the mountains rising majestically

As we are tripartite beings we can easily discern
The benefit our bodies and minds receive
By using our vision fully
But what of our third part - our spirituality?

This, too, must be widened, enlarged, used to its maximum
Otherwise we stifle, stultify, and droop.
To be short-sighted in any part of our being
Needs rectification. We know the physical and mental answers

Do we also know the remedy for the spiritual complaint?
Isaiah. tells us to enlarge our tents, lengthen it's ropes
Widen our sphere of interest
Look at others, see their needs - care:

Jesus looked across the field of humanity
What did He see as He gazed?
A field ready for harvest, a people waiting to be told
The Good News of Salvation - a field in need of harvesters

How is our spiritual eyesight? Do we see as Jesus sees?
Do we care as Jesus cares?
Do our hearts ache as the harvest withers - as people march
Into a long-lost eternity of separation from God?

'Lord' we cry 'Open our eyes; fill our hearts with your compassion;
Give us a clearer spiritual perception;
Fill us, Holy Spirit; Overflow the vessels of our lives;
Mould us into willing Reapers in the harvest field of life.'
