In quietness and confidence
Shall be your strength.
'Quietness Lord Quietness?!'
In this hectic, busy life?
A thousand pressures
Innumerable jobs
And yet you say "Be still -
For that's where you'll find me.'
In the stillness and quietness,'
How wonderful it sounds
But how impossible!
Yet the insistent calm voice of God
says 'Come apart and rest awhile.
'Do you really know
What you are saying, Lord?'
'How can I relax and think of
Just me?
The baby needs me
The children come in from school
My husband is due any moment
Yet still you say
'Hand your weakness over to me
For therein your strength lies.'
'But Lord'......But Lord'
I argue on and on
And Jesus in infinite patience
Smiles, and says 'I know best
My child I created you
I know your deep needs
Trust in me give me control
And the impossible shall be possible
I take a deep breath
And at the foot of the Cross
I gladly kneel and give Him the reins
'Come in take over' I cry
'It's too much for just me'.
'I know' He answers. 'That's why I died
To bring you not just life
But Abundant Life, in me.'
What a relief, the burden is gone
Jesus in now in control
The problems are lighter.
Why did I hang on to them so long?
Was it because my time alone
With Him was rushed?
I didn't take the time to listen
And the still small Voice wasn't heard?
Speak to me in the stillness Lord
May my time with You be precious
Don't let me tug at the reins again
In my haste to solve things myself.
Give me your strength
And then I'll find confidence
Together we will steer my boat
Into the calm waters of peace in You.
