BRANCHES FROM A WILD OLIVE TREE

“Branches from a wild olive tree”
What a wonderful description of Christians
And what a feeling of security
Knowing we are firmly grafted into
And receiving nourishment from God’s “special olive tree”

This is how the Holy Spirit revealed to Paul
The closeness of our relationship
And our dependancy on the Lord
For our spiritual life, growth and work
As we share in the blessings of Abraham

Jesus, too, used the analogy
Of a tree — He the vine, and we the branches
“Live in Me” — “Abide in Me” He says
For that is the only way you can produce fruit
And it was for this work you were appointed

At times the Gardener will need to prune
The branches — sometimes a painful process
But it is to bring forth more fruit
An abundance of fruit. “I tell you this”
Says Jesus “That my joy may be in you, an overflowing joy”

A branch from a wild olive tree
Grafted into the Tree of Abundant Life
And bearing tresses of the fruit
Of Good News through salvation in Jesus
This is our life’s work; this our calling; this our appointed task.
